The husband of one of the teachers killed in the shooting at a Texas elementary school has suffered a fatal heart attack.

Fourth-grade teacher Irma Garcia was one of two faculty members killed at Robb Elementary in Uvalde on Tuesday.

On Thursday, her grief-stricken husband Joe died of a heart attack.

One of Irma’s nephews announced the devastating news in a tweet, writing: “EXTREMELY heartbreaking and come with deep sorrow to say that my Tia Irma’s husband Joe Garcia has passed away due to grief.”

They added, “I truly am at a loss for words for how we are all feeling, PLEASE PRAY FOR OUR FAMILY, God have mercy on us, this isn’t easy.”

It is understood that Joe and Irma were high school sweethearts and had been married for 24 years.

A GoFundMe created by Irma’s cousin, had raised more than $1,000,000 as of Friday morning for the family following Joe’s death, which she described as a medical emergency.

“I truly believe Joe died of a broken heart and losing the love of his life of more than 25 years was too much to bear,” the description reads.

Survivors from the shooting have recalled how Irma and fellow teacher Eva Mireles died shielding their students from the gunman’s bullets.

Joe and Irma leaves behind four children, aged 13, 15, 19 and 23.
