OK, first thing’s first.

If you’re a first-time voter or need to update your details with the Australian Electoral Commission, you have until 8pm on April 18… that’s Easter Monday.

Thing is, this time around there’s some pretty specific situations that could arise during this Federal Election that are brand new and Alex Morris from the AEC went through a few of them with us.

If you want to avoid the crowds, you can cast a postal vote (until the Wednesday prior to the election) or by attending a pre-polling site (from May 9)…but what if you test positive to COVID and it’s too late for a postal vote?

“We’re working on a telephone voting system which will be there as an emergency measure for people in that circumstance and literally can’t leave the house,” Alex said.

“It’s a system we’ve used before, we’re just rolling it out to more people this time.”
