There’s been a disturbing trend among elderly drivers.

Worrying new data shows that an increasing number of older drivers are not wearing seatbelts when they get into motor vehicles.

Three drivers aged over 75 have already died on the roads this year without seatbelts on – compared to just two in the last six years combined.

On top of that, Transport Accident Commission data showed that seven people in their 50s also died while unrestrained.

“It’s disturbing… these are traditionally conservative drivers,” Head of Road Safety Victoria, Robyn Seymour said.

If you’re over 50 you should check out the RACV’s free Years Ahead program or the Wiser Driver program to make sure you keep yourself safe!
