Video has surfaced of a woman climbing into a zoo’s lion enclosure to taunt the dangerous animal.

The moment, which has since gone viral, shows an unidentified woman standing opposite an African lion at the Bronx Zoo in New York. She reportedly bypassed the low wooden safety barrier and stepped inside the enclosure.

The woman is captured staring the lion in the eye in front of nervous onlookers. She then begins to dance and taunt the animal.

Instagram user ‘realsobrino’ caught the terrifying moment, uploading multiple videos showing the woman playfully waving, and attempting to get the lion’s attention.

“Just like a chicken on death row walking majestically into ur [sic] kitchen,” one person commented.

Another added, “The lion looks like he’s calling for backup.”

While a large concrete moat separated the woman from the predator, lions can jump up to 36 feet (11m), which in this case, could have been deadly.

The Bronx Zoo confirmed the incident to NBC New York, saying:  “This action was a serious violation and unlawful trespass that could have resulted in serious injury or death. Barriers and rules are in place to keep both visitors, staff and animals safe. We have a zero tolerance policy on trespass and violation of barriers.”
