Police are appealing for witnesses after several acts of horrific animal cruelty on the state’s far South Coast over the weekend.

Officers were called to Dress Circle and Headland Drive, Tura Beach at about 10:15am on Sunday September 29 after reports that dead kangaroos were on the road.

According to NSW Police, up to 20 kangaroos were found, believed to have been run over by a vehicle between 10:30pm and 11:30pm on Saturday evening September 28.

9 News is reporting that Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Services (WIRES) volunteers are currently caring for three joeys who survived the incident.

South Coast Police District detectives are currently investigating the act of animal cruelty and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
