A new app has been introduced by the NSW government to help Sydney drivers avoid getting parking fines in paid parking areas.

It’s called Park ’n Pay and the app allows drivers to pay for their parking through their phone rather than using a ticket machine.

This means that drivers will no longer have to rush back to their car to top up the parking meter or risk copping a fine.

The app will also give drivers a notification when their parking is about to expire so they can either plan to leave or add extra time.

If you prefer to pay at a parking meter, the app will help you locate your nearest one.

According to Customer Service Minister Victor Dominello, the app is currently available or use in The Rocks, Pyrmont, Darling Harbour and Liverpool in Sydney before being rolled out elsewhere in the coming months.

To pay for parking, the app uses Apple Pay, Google Pay, and credit cards with PayPal.
