Overnight, 17 thousand people were tested which while astounding, Premier Gladys requests higher numbers from the public.

18 new COVID-19 cases popped up overnight through community transmission with 9 cases connected to the Avalon cluster through individual’s who are already in isolation.

What had caused concern is the development of the second cluster in Sydney’s inner west, experts are calling it the ‘Croydon Cluster’ where 6 new cases are directly linked to 1 extended family.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian says to expect cases to climb due to the development of the second cluster and the movements recorded of the infected family.

This news means that everyone in Greater Sydney, Wollongong and Nepean Area can now only allow 5 people in their homes for New Years Eve, which is a reduction of 50% of what was originally planned as well as gatherings in outdoor areas are limited to 30 people.

The Premier urges everyone with even the mildest symptoms to get tested.
