Monarto Zoo’s staff have welcomed four new lion cubs to the Adelaide zoo over the weekend.
The two-day-old cubs were born between Sunday evening and Monday morning to Husani, a first-time mum.
“Husani, who is 6 years old, is doing a fantastic job and the cubs are thriving under her attentive care”, says the zoo’s assistant curator, Anna Bennett.
At this stage, the new family is being given complete privacy, with monitoring only happening via a webcam in the lions’ den. The new cubs will remain off-limits and in Husani’s care while the family bonds and will make a public debut in the near future.
Husani herself was born as part of the zoo’s breeding program in 2013.
