Australian boxing legend Jeff Fenech has successfully undergone lifesaving surgery on his heart in Thailand overnight, according to 9 News.
The three-time world champ was admitted to hospital in Bangkok on Friday after he began coughing up blood. It was discovered that an infection had spread from his lungs to his heart, forcing doctors to perform the risky operation to replace one of his valves.
Surgeons commenced a five-hour operation overnight to replace the valve and drain fluid from his lungs, which we’re being told was a success.

9 News reports that Fenech was in good spirits before heading into the theatre after his three adult children arrived in Thailand just in time to wish him luck. His wife also flew over to be by his side.
Fenech will now be closely monitored to make sure that he doesn’t get any further infections, with the recovery period expected to take three or four days.
It’s uncertain whether Fenech will be able to fly home in time for his eldest daughter Jess’ wedding.
Jess has posted a bunch of photos to her Twitter acount of her and her father, expressing just how much she loves him.
