Sydney’s Northern Beaches council is demanding families keep their children quiet at a popular waterfront playground after a wealthy local resident complained.

A sign was erected at Manly Lagoon Reserve Playground warning park-goers to “keep the noise down”. It asks visitors at the park to “please be mindful of excessive noise which is disruptive to residents living nearby”.

Northern Beaches Council said the park generated high activity, especially on weekends.

“The signs, one of which has been in place for the last seven months, is simply to politely remind people to be mindful of those living nearby while they are enjoying this area,” the Council said.

“Council has a duty of care to all our residents and we are trying to find a balance for everyone. We are happy to listen to all the views in the community and if the sign is not meeting community expectations, we will consider removing it.”
