A holiday houseboat has turned to ash after fierce flames engulfed the vessel in Sydney’s northern beaches.

Emergency services were called to Palm Beach at approximately 2:20pm after reports of a houseboat on fire, 9News report.

The luxurious ‘Lilypad’ holiday boat was a full service floating villa, offering overnight accommodation for two and a private event space for up to 16 people.

Despite efforts from firefighters who worked tirelessly on the blaze, the ship could not be saved, and was subsequently turned to ash.

“We can confirm that Lilypad Palm Beach has today been irreparably damaged by a fire on board,” the owners announced.

“Thankfully no one was on board at the time so it’s only a matter of property damage.

“Thank you to everyone who has reached out and shown us support both today and over the last 18 month journey. We will be contacting all of our upcoming guests tomorrow.”

The cause of the fire is unknown, and under investigation.
