Queensland will reintroduce its hard border with New South Wales as concern grows around the Northern Beaches cluster.
26 people linked to the cluster are currently in hotel quarantine in Queensland, with 20 of those having returned negative COVID-19 tests.
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says that while she sympathises with those separated from their families, action has to be taken.
“Realistically, holding out to Wednesday night is maybe giving people false hope, because we know that has changed already and people do need to plan,” Ms Palaszczuk told reporters on Monday.
Checkpoints are now being implemented along the northern New South Wales border.
