For reasons unbeknownst to us, the emergence of the coronavirus has brought with it a demand for toilet paper.
While the virus is a respiratory illness, which does not affect bowel movement, the general public’s need for toilet paper has increased. While we might laugh and joke about this influx in toilet paper buyers, we often forget about the impact it has on our society.
This morning, Jonesy & Amanda spoke about the impact the ‘panic culture’ around the coronavirus has had on them. However, it wasn’t until Tiarne from Emerton and Lee from Sylvania spoke about their experiences that it really hit home.
For Lee, her mother is undergoing radiation therapy for cancer which affects her bowel and bladder. They haven’t been able to get their hands on toilet paper or flushable wipes for weeks, and have now resorted to using paper towels on an area that is obviously highly sensitive. It’s unacceptable.
