When news broke that formals, dances, graduation ceremonies, choirs and all social events had been banned in NSW government schools in a bid to stop the spread of coronavirus, Amanda Keller immediately thought of her 17-year-old son.
“There’s many hardships this year,” she began.
“People’s lives have changed inexplicably, and it strikes me in different times and different ways, how we’re mourning the loss of our old lives.
“I felt this on the weekend watching Jack play rugby for school. That’s been a big part of his and Liam’s life.
“We have to watch Jack play on a streaming YouTube channel now because parents aren’t allowed to watch the games.”
She added, “But Jack isn’t allowed to stay and watch his other teammates play, and no parents are allowed to be there and I felt really sad.”
