The last person remaining in hospital in South Australia with illness related to the deadly coronavirus has finally left hospital.

Paul Faraguna and his wife both caught the coronavirus on the now infamous Ruby Princess cruise ship in March.

While the couple had both been cleared of the virus, Mr Faraguna remained in hospital, with his recovery described by some as a miracle.

Faraguna was South Australia’s first patient to be admitted to hospital with COVID-19 and the last to leave. At one point he was in intensive care in an induced coma for 35 days.

Mr Faraguna received a guard of honour by healthcare workers as he left the Royal Adelaide Hospital yesterday.

And while he’s still recovering from the disease and its side effects, he will now begin receiving rehabilitative care at Modbury Hospital.
