Like my attempts to make homemade champagne out of wine and a Soda Stream, a frightening mishap in Italy has caused tens of thousands of litres of prosecco to explode.
The upsetting vision of 8000 gallons – or 30,200 litres (!) – of sparkling spilling all over the goddamn ground was uploaded to the L’enoteca Zanardo Giussano winery’s Facebook page last month when one of its fermentation tanks burst.
The vid has since accumulated more than 1.5 million views, as well as comments from winos worldwide expressing their sadness and desire to help “clean up” the mess with glasses, straws and maybe some cheese and crackers.
Luckily, the spill probably won’t have the hugest impact on the area’s prosecco production. The region is expected to produce nearly 500 million bottles of prosecco this year, which is about 50 million more than last year.
