For those of us who thought the humble French fry was just cut up potato, think again…
Mythbusters traveled to McDonald’s potato processing plant in Idaho, and what they found was very interesting indeed. The host of the show, Grant Imahara found that there were actually a whopping 14 ingredients in a McDonald’s fry, and you may not believe what they are.
The first ingredient discovered by Imahara was potatoes – phew! But it’s the other 13 (and the fact that they’re actually double fried!) that may surprise you…
Dimethylpolysiloxane – a form of silicone found in Silly Putty – was also found in the fries, as well as a petrol-based chemical.
The good news? Imahara reassures viewers that both ingredients are actually safe additives and used for perfectly good reasons.
