A campaign inspired by an empty esky is gaining traction online, with the aim of helping those affected by the Aussie bushfires to get back on their feet.

The Empty Esky campaign aims to aid the recovery of local tourism industries and small businesses by encouraging Australians to pledge a visit to a bushfire affected town in 2020 – empty esky in tow.

The campaign, which launched on Instagram, gained over 10,000 followers in just 24-hours, with social media users sharing their plans to travel locally this year.

Travel destinations include those on the South Coast of NSW, which was declared ‘open for business’ by the NSW RFS on January 11.

When disaster strikes, we instinctively want to act in anyway that we can, like donating second hand items or food – but this isn’t always helpful, it can in fact become harmful! The most powerful thing you can do right now is LISTEN to those who are hurting, and hear how you can serve them best. That’s what we have been doing today. We spoke with locals who have witnessed their homes, belongings, livelihood turn to ash. Their responses have been so selfless – talking about how worried they are for local business who have missed out on peak season trade!! “Businesses have lost all their summer foot traffic, we need to help them make up for the summer season otherwise they won’t be able to afford to live”. THIS is what our fellow Aussies have asked for, so we are asking you to help MAKE IT HAPPEN! Tag your ‘Empty Esky’ road trip crew below and GET PLANNING for when its safe to go! #emptyesky #australianfires #smallbusiness #bushfiresaustralia #weareone #roadtrip ©️Empty Esky
