Perth’s Amelia ‘Milli’ Lucas will have her final send-off today at Perth’s Optus Stadium today, January 14, where she had the “best day of her life”, tossing the coin before a Fremantle-Port Adelaide clash in 2019.
Last week, the 14-year-old lost her long battle with cancer.
Her family have extended an invitation to anyone who wishes to attend, gates will open at 10.30am for an 11am service, asking that attendees wear something turquoise-blue in honour of Milli.
In 2016, Milli was 9 when she was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour which was operated on in 2019 by renowned Sydney neurosurgeon Dr Charlie Teo.
While 98 per cent of the tumour was removed by Dr Teo, the cancer returned in March, 2020.
She was flown to Sydney for further treatment but was ultimately returned to Perth on a mercy flight with the Royal Flying Doctor Service after an anonymous donor paid for the 10-hour trip.
She slipped away on January 4.
Between 1000 and 1500 people are expected to attend today’s funeral.
