Over the past few months there has been some BIG money change hands when it comes to the classic (and also rare) makes of the legendary Holden Torana.

A canary yellow coupe A9X recently went for $275,000 and a Jack Brabham A9X fetched $392,000.

Now, a rare sedan is up for auction and it too is expected to go for a pretty penny!

A pristine 1977 Holden Torana A9X sedan is going under the hammer at Pickles Auctions (in conjunction with Gosford Classic Car Museum) where it is expected to go for anywhere between $170,000 and $200,000.

With only 127,125km on the odometer, this Torana is number 60 of only 450 ever produced.

Operations manager at Gosford Classic Car Museum Jason Fischer told 9Finance, “There’s been some big dollars for these cars. The people who seem to be keen to get their hands on one have either owned one before, saw them race at Bathurst or had posters up of these cars on their walls,”

“Nostalgia adds a ton of value.”

“You’ve got to remember at the time when these cars were new most of them were raced or driven aggressively. Very few people in 1977 bought them to store as long-term investments,”

“It was almost seen as the hoon’s car, and now if you’ve got one you’re a connoisseur, which is pretty funny!”

“People who associate the car with their childhood and growing up are almost willing to pay whatever it takes to own one,”

“When buying a classic car I always tell people to buy something they like.”

“That way if the classic car market goes one way and your car doesn’t rocket up in value, you still have something that brings you happiness.”

The auctioned is being held at Pickles Belmore in Sydney on May 26, 2018.
