Coles have also followed Woolworths and will close from 8pm on Wednesday to restock shelves. They will also commit to the first hour of trade to be exclusively for the elderly and disabled in ‘community hour’.

FURTHER UPDATE: It was announced by Woolworths that they were unable to honor the $30 essential pack that was promised earlier this week.


Supermarket giant Woolworths have made the decision to close all their stores across Australia at 8pm on Wednesday, giving staff the opportunity to fill the shelves which have been emptied by shoppers.

The stores will reopen on Thursday at 7am in the morning. It will also open at the start of the dedicated hour for the elderly and vulnerable who have struggled to shop amongst the chaos.

Seniors and people with disabilities will also be able to purchase packs with essentials for $30.

Woolworths have also announced that they have suspended their Click & Collect service amid the coronavirus crisis, which allows shoppers to purchase groceries online before picking them up instore.

Woolworths have not cancelled their delivery services but have warned there is extended wait times.
