There are two types of dog owners; the kind that won’t let the dog touch a single piece of furniture for fear of the couch could somehow awakening as some Lovecraftian horror should it ever meet the fur of a hound, or the kind who let the dog anywhere and everywhere in the house. If you’re part of the latter group, and your pet sometimes shares your pillow, a study has found you might be getting better sleep.

The Mayo Clinic, in Scottsdale, Arizona, performed a study in 2017 to compare the “Effect of Dogs on Human Sleep in the Home Sleep Environment“, which compared the sleep habits of 40 adults and their dogs over five months. Participants had no sleep disorders and were all healthy, and wore trackers that monitored their sleep for a period of the test.

“Most people assume having pets in the bedroom is a disruption,” the Mayo Clinic’s Lois Krahn told Mirror UK.

“We found that many people actually find comfort and a sense of security from sleeping with their pets.”

Mayo clinic also said that having the dog in the bedroom is one of the easiest ways to maximise time with them if you’re out working most of the day.

UNILAD found the response was mixed to the study, with some users preferring dog company to human company in the bedroom, and others finding it super gross.

Most, though, it seems were just sharing adorable pictures of their personal space being hogged by dogs;
