Sydney Lunar Festival is the biggest celebration of Lunar New Year outside of Asia with more than 100 exciting events and experiences that reflect Sydney’s cultural diversity, artistic talent and community spirit.

Join 101.7 WSFM between 6pm and 10pm on Saturday, February 1st to celebrate the Lunar Lantern Festival with the perfect photo opportunity!

Located right next to the Rat Lantern in First Fleet Park, the WSFM Street Team will be on hand to help you take the perfect selfie or family pic, set in a backdrop of lanterns, parasols and lights!

This year’s jam packed festival program, curated by Valerie Khoo, offers so many fun ways to celebrate the Year of the Rat!

Lunar Lanes – Haymarket Sat 25 Jan 5pm-10pm
Head to Haymarket on Lunar New Year’s Day for the Lunar Lanes street party. Enjoy live performances, games, craft activities, feasting and be first to see two gigantic gold rat robots from this year’s hero Lunar Lantern.

Lunar Lanterns – Circular Quay Fri 31 Jan-Sun 9 Feb
Take a short stroll around Circular Quay to discover 12 larger-than-life animal signs of the Lunar zodiac. Find your zodiac among the Lunar Lanterns including a spectacular tower of nine gold metallic rats by Claudia Chan Shaw to celebrate the Year of the Rat.

Lion Dance Program
-Chinatown performances every Friday, Saturday, Sunday from 31 Jan to 9 Feb
-Sydney Town Hall 28-30Jan
-Circular Quay performances on 31 Jan-9Feb
You can catch a Lion Dance every day of Sydney Lunar Festival at various locations and experience electrifying LED Lion and Dragon dances under the glow of the Lunar Lanterns that take this tradition to a whole new level.

Dragon Boat Racing
– Cockle Bay Sat 1 Feb-Sun 2 Feb
See thousands of paddlers churn the waters of Cockle Bay at the biggest Dragon Boat regatta in the southern hemisphere. It all begins with a traditional blessing by Taoist monks and an eye dotting ceremony said to awaken the dragons.

Green Square Celebrations – Sat 8 Feb
Find fun for the whole family at neighbourhood celebrations that include a lion dancing workshop for kids.

Sydney Lunar New Year Fair at Belmore Park – Sat 8 Feb
A full day of festivities including a multicultural carnival and gourmet paradise with amusement rides, bargain shopping and plenty of cultural entertainment.

Lunar Feasts
As Sydney celebrates the Lunar Feasts program will bring festive feasting as well as the sights, scents and flavours of Asian street food to the City’s hottest bars and restaurants.
