Just when you thought things couldn’t get any weirder in this wonderful new world of technology, a New York City judge has ruled that it is acceptable to file divorce papers over Facebook.
The decision came thanks to a couple named Ellanora Baidoo and Victor Sena Blood-Dzraku, who split shortly following their nuptials in 2006.
Blood-Dzraku failed to show to pick up his divorce papers, and as he doesn’t have a fixed address or a steady job, it proved impossible for Baidoo to hand the papers over.
So she asked the judge for permission to send them via Facebook Messenger – and, amazingly, the request was granted due to her ex-husband’s elusive nature.
Now that this legal precedent has been set, it means that effectively any couple can file for divorce in this way in the state of New York.
Looks like a whole bunch of divorce lawyers could be out of work.
Zuckerberg strikes again.
