Over the past few months, wild bushfires have caused havoc, with unprecedented blazes causing widespread damage and destruction throughout the eastern seaboard.

Strong winds and extreme temperatures prompted a “catastrophic” fire danger rating for the greater Sydney region for the very first time, with a total fire ban put in place.

As news presenters, Sunrise hosts David Koch and Samantha Armytage would have been at the forefront of the bushfire reports, but little did we know that Sam had firsthand experience of the fires at her home in the Southern Highlands.

The television personality is “thankful” to have escaped the deadly NSW bushfires in one piece after making a desperate dash to safety over the New Year’s period.

“I’ve had a terrible summer,” Sam told Jonesy & Amanda this morning.

She added, “Fire here, fire there, and then you worry about another one starting”.
