With no media training or past life in the spotlight, Melbourne astrophysicist Matt Agnew has stepped up as this year’s Aussie Bachelor after Nick ‘Honey Badger’ Cummins’ unsuccessful stint last year.

Cummins outraged fans by failing to pick anybody in the show’s finale, claiming he wasn’t in the right headspace to find love.

While the rest of Australia was vilifying the former rugby player, Agnew feels he was unfairly condemned.

“It’s quite unfair and unjustifiable the amount of criticism he copped,” he told Jonesy & Amanda.

“If you don’t find the connection, you don’t find the connection.

He added, “I went in quite optimistically and openminded, and I didn’t feel any pressure. I certainly didn’t have any pressure from a production point of view. It was very much my decision.”

In other words, the 31-year-old is going on the show 100 per cent ready for a relationship.

So, does Agnew find his perfect woman? It certainly looks that way!

The Bachelor premieres 7.30pm Wednesday on Channel 10.
