Humans of Dublin is modelled off the Humans of New York project, and a story posted on Monday is going viral – for good reason.

Peter Varga photographed Jamie Harrington, and Jamie told the story of how he helped a stranger in his darkest moments.

All he had to help him were his kinds words, and all he asked was “Are you okay?”

He saw the man sitting on the ledge of a bridge feeling depressed. They talked, and eventually Jamie called an ambulance for the man.

They exchanged numbers and stayed in touch, and Jamie recently found out that the man and his wife are expecting a son, and will name it after him.

“He said in that moment that I approached him, he was just about to jump, and those few words saved his life,” Harrington told Varga.

“That they’re still ringing in his head every day. ‘Are you okay?’ I can’t really understand how these few words could save his life, but he told me, ‘Imagine if nobody ever asked you those words…’”
