It’s been a good week for Dwayne Johnson; the wrestler-turned-actor just married long-term partner Lauren Hashian, his latest film Hobbs and Shaw broke the $450 Million USD benchmark worldwide, and he now finds himself sitting atop the film industry, after scoring top spot among the world’s highest paid actors for the second year in a row.

Despite Quentin Tarantino’s new film Once Upon A Time In Hollywood bemoaning the end of the era for Hollywood’s leading men, the numbers speak differently, with Johnson, this year, scoring a gargantuan $89.4 Million USD. Marvel stars Chris Hemsworth and Robert Downey Jr. take second and third place with $76.4 Million USD and $66 Million USD respectively.

Technically, Johnson was beat out in spectacular fashion last year by George Clooney, who earned nearly double The Rock’s $124 Million USD 2018 earnings, at $239 Million USD, though most of Clooney’s earnings were from the sale of Tequila company, Casamigos. Never one to settle for second-best, The Rock still broke the all-time world record for highest earnings from acting, with his 2018 total. Johnson took to Twitter at the time to reflect on how far he’d come since starting his entertainment career.

Johnson’s gargantuan payday this year, according to Forbes, came from blockbusters like Hobbs and Shaw, and the upcoming Jumanji sequel, as well as starring in Ballers, and sports game show Titan Games, on top of various sponsorships and brand deals.

Aussie-boy Chris Hemsworth, in second place, has a similar income, raking in $15 Million each time he picks up Mjolnir to play Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Hemsworth also has, according to Forbes, 7-figure endorsements with Hugo Boss and Tag Huer.

Despite these huge paydays, The Rock and Hemsworth only score 10th and 24th place respectively in Forbes’ Highest Paid Celebrities list respectively. In the broader field, Taylor Swift takes top spot with $185 Million, followed by Kardashian/Jenner empire mastheads Kylie Jenner and Kanye West.
