It’s been 35 years since the adventure movie The Goonies was released… and the cast got together on a new YouTube series, ‘Reunited Apart’.

Hosted by Josh Gad, the beloved ’80s film’s entire surviving cast joined via Zoom, we’re talking:

Sean Astin (Mikey), Josh Brolin (Brand), Jeff Cohen (Chunk), Corey Feldman (Mouth), Kerri Green (Andy), Martha Plimpton (Stef), Ke Huy Quan (Data), Robert Davi (Jake), and Joe Pantoliano (Francis).

Even better were the pop-ins from screenwriter Chris Columbus, theme song singer Cyndi Lauper, and director Richard Donner, who also happened to be celebrating his 90th birthday.

Another pop-in was the film’s story writer and executive producer, oh you know, Steven Spielberg.

The burning question for Spielberg was a sequel, something he shot down, that the “bar” was set too high by the original.

That’s not to say it hadn’t been considered.

“Chris, Dick and I — and Lauren [Shuler Donner] — have had a lot of conversations about it,” Spielberg said.

“Every couple of years we come up with an idea but then it doesn’t hold water.”

Donner chimed in jokingly, “How are you going to find seven miserable kids like this again that are new and fresh?”

(In saying that, this isn’t to be confused with a FOX pilot currently in the works which features a teacher and a group of students who create a shot-for-shot remake of The Goonies.)
