It’s a sporting rivalry that is known but never spoken about but last night, Stan Wawrinka and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga really got to each other on court.
The Swiss and Frenchman were playing each other in the Quarter Final of the Australian Open when things got heated between sets.
By the audio, it appears Wawrinka didn’t like the way Tsonga was looking him.
It may even have something to do with a previous comment Tsonga made during the match.
Of the comments caught by television crews, Wawrinka can be heard saying, in French: ‘Have I looked at you once?’
‘Sure,’ Tsonga shoots back.
Wawrinka continues: ‘When? You are looking at me! What did you say? It’s you that’s looking at me and talking to me.’
‘I said nothing,’ Tsonga replies, according to a translation by the Herald Sun.
Wawrinka adds: ‘Did I look at you at all? It’s a tennis match. You’ve got to calm down, relax a bit, it’s a tennis match.’
‘There’s no problems,’ Tsonga says.
Wawrinka overcame Tsonga in a straight-sets victory, setting up a clash with fellow Swiss Roger Federer.
