A woman in the US is running out of time to prepare for the arrival of her first child – after realising weeks before her due date that she was pregnant.
Abby Wake learned she was expecting after her boyfriend felt movement in her belly.
It turns out she was 32 weeks along – and had no idea!
She said she always dreamed of being a mother, but was shocked to discover how far along she was.
“And he was just like, ’32 weeks.’ He was just doing the measurements. And we were like, ‘I’m sorry?’”
She noticed a small belly, but put it down to weight gain and bloating as she is lactose intolerant – she ignored the movements she felt, thinking they were just gas.
“I had no symptoms,” she said.
But her Aussie boyfriend, Jarryd Gorman suspected the pregnancy at a music festival when he felt her belly.
“I felt the baby kick and I looked at her and said, ‘I think you’re definitely pregnant,’ ” he said. “We need to go see someone straight away.”
According to their doctor, Payman Joseph, unnoticed pregnancies are not as uncommon as you’d think – but Wake’s situation is especially unique.
“She’s very thin compared to a lot of the other women that I’ve seen this in,” he said.
Wake will see a specialist as she didn’t receive the proper pre-natal care, but her doctor is confident she will deliver a healthy baby boy.
The two are now focussing on preparing for their new arrival, which includes trying to keep his Daddy in the US as his Australian visa will expire soon.
The couple have decided to name their baby Isaiah, and you can help them out with a virtual baby shower!
