It seems after State Of Origin Game I everyone’s thinking the same thing… What was going on with that opening performance?

While usually the talk following the game will be centred around the performance of the two teams, NRL fans this time turned their critiques to the choice of pre-game entertainment.

Indigenous hip-hop artist Briggs performed his hit song ‘Life is Incredible’ in front of the packed crowd at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium but instead of amping up the fans it seemed to land a little flat.

And everyone on social media wasn’t afraid to point it out!

Some brutal viewers labelled the performance the worst pre-game performance ever and others actually said that it was worse than the time Meatloaf gave a cringeworthy performance at the 2011 AFL grand final.

We think the main factor contributing to the poor review was the fact that fans are usually expecting to see a rock group that they know well pump up the crowd.

Last year, rock band Birds of Tokyo, Grinspoon and Powderfinger frontman Bernard Fanning performed at the three respective Origin games.

2GB radio host Ray Hadley, who was commentating the game, also wasn’t impressed and appeared to think that it had something to do with the fact that no one knew who Briggs was.

“I don’t know where Briggs is next appearing but I hope I’m no where within 100km of him,” he said. “Strike me pink, where’d they find him?

“I’ve asked any number of people much younger than me if they’ve heard of him and I couldn’t find one.”
