A film based on the devastating 1996 Port Arthur Massacre is in production.

The film’s production is already underway in Geelong, Victoria and will be called ‘NITRAM’ spelling shooter Martin Bryant’s name backwards.

Trust has been put into director Justin Kurzel (Snowtown) and writer Shaun Grant who have worked together on Stan’s ‘True History of the Kelly Gang’ to ensure the story is done right.

Caleb Landry Jones has been cast to play Martin Bryant, the man responsible for murdering 35 people and injuring. Landry Jones has starred in award winning films such as ‘Get Out’ and ‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri’.

Stan has announced it will be focussing on the events leading up to the massacre, trying to figure out why and how it even happened.

The film isn’t about glorifying the murderer or the lives lot that day.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald , NITRAM will not name Bryant or depict the massacre.

“We have complete faith in the NITRAM team’s creative vision and ability to handle the film’s subject matter with sensitivity and respect,” Stan Chief Content Officer Nick Forward stated.
