Just a day after it was revealed that Channel 10 had been faking positive tweets to advertise Rove McManus’ new show, Saturday Night Rove, the bad news just keeps on coming.

TV Tonight is reporting that both 10 and Rove have agreed to cancel the show after airing just two episodes.

Speaking with the publication, Rove reportedly said the choice was clear after looking at the audience numbers.

“It was clear looking at the numbers that the audience we hoped would find a free-wheeling live show on a Saturday night just weren’t there. We spoke with 10 today and we both called it,” he said.

“The opportunity to play live in front of Australia again was fun, no matter how brief, and I would like to thank my amazing co-stars, the behind the scenes team and everyone at 10 who got behind Saturday Night Rove.”

A spokesperson for Network 10 reiterated this same idea to TV Tonight, blaming poor ratings for the decision.

“Unfortunately Saturday Night Rove hasn’t resonated with viewers the way we had hoped, so Rove and 10 have made the decision to remove it from the schedule. Rove is a sensational entertainer and a close friend of 10, and we thank him for all his hard work, and all the laughs, on Saturday Night Rove.”

During it’s premiere episode, Saturday Night Rove brought in 244,000 metro viewers on August 24, leaving it out of the top 20 highest-rated programs for the night.

It’s second episode performed even worse, pulling in only 138,000 viewers during it’s second week on air.

It comes after TV Blackbox reported that the tweets used to help promote the show had been taken out of context to look like they were praising the show, when in fact, most appeared to be less than complimentary in reality.

A Ten Spokesperson told TV Blackbox that the edited tweets had been part of “human error”.

“The inclusion of these tweets was human error. We have updated our processes to ensure it doesn’t happen again.”

Saturday Night Rove was brought back after it performed well during Ten’s Pilot Week in 2018.

A replacement for the 7:30pm time slot on Saturdays has not bee announced yet.
