Rick Springfield says Meryl Streep was  “really brave” in learning to master the electric guitar “at this point in her career” and play a credible musician in the movie Ricki and the Flash. 

How did he deal with nerves having to bed the acting legend in his role? “My deer-in-the-headlights look wasn’t going to work. We had to change that.” He told The Hollywood Reporter.

The ’80s teen idol and the three-time Oscar winner co-star in the movie, which opens August 27th. Springfield says the unlikely duo found their rhythm onstage while performing together.

The movie’s original trailer featured Streep and Springfield performing “Drift Away,” while its soundtrack album also includes the film’s fictional band covering “Wooly Bully,” “American Girl,” “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Lookin For” and “Get the Party Started.”
