Australian actress Mary Ward has passed away at 106.

Ward, who is best known for portraying Jeanette Brooks (AKA ‘Mum’) in Prisoner from 1979 to 1981, died on Monday morning at an aged-care facility in Melbourne, her family revealed.

With 39 credits under her name, she also appeared in The Henderson Kids, Sons and Daughters, A Country Practice, Neighbours and Blue Heelers.

At the age of 95, she retired from acting.

Ward was not only an actor, but the first-ever female announcer on the ABC. She was described as ‘The Forces Sweetheart’ and read letters on-air and music requests in her broadcasts.

Rest in Peace, Mary Ward.
