As the November 6 release date of The Beatles’ new The Beatles 1 and deluxe 1+ video collections approaches, the band has been debuting select clips from the compilations online.
Among the latest is a newly restored video for “Penny Lane” that you can watch now at The Beatles’ official YouTube VEVO channel.
The video, which was filmed by Scandinavian director Peter Goldmann, features footage of The Beatles shot on the streets of East London and on the grounds of an estate in Kent, England, as well as separate sequences without the band filmed in Liverpool near Penny Lane.
As the video begins, we see John Lennon walking down a city street, where he runs into the rest of The Beatles. The band members then are seen walking together for a bit, before they suddenly appear riding horses down city streets. The setting soon changes, as the Fab Four are captured riding the horses in the English countryside, at one point passing their instruments set up on white platforms in the middle of a field. The band members eventually come upon a fancy table with a bottle of champagne, two candelabras and some tea cups on it. The Beatles sit down and begin sipping from the cups, but then Lennon abruptly overturns the table.
The reissue of The Beatles 1 hits compilation will be available in CD/DVD and CD/Blu-ray versions that each include a disc of videos that accompany the 27 chart-topping songs appearing on the album. In addition, the deluxe The Beatles 1+ collection boasts 23 more videos, including alternate clips for some of the band’s #1 hits and performances of select tunes not featured on the original 1 anthology.
