Paul Freeland, the original drummer for Moving Pictures, has died after a battle with Alzheimer’s.

Freeland was with the band from 1978 to 1982, playing on the debut album ‘Days of Innocence’ which went to number one in Australia in October 1981.

The album is best-known for the hit ‘What About Me’, which also shot to number one.

A post, understood to have been written by frontman Alex Smith, described Freeland’s death amid the pandemic, or in his words: “a very strange time in our world.”

“We cannot go out. We cannot celebrate and on occasions such as this, we cannot grieve together.”

Freeland was described as “solid as a rock” and was thanked for “all the great times and your wonderful beats.”
