Neil Diamond kicked off his first tour of Australia in four years last  night in Melbourne.

The two-hour, 29-song program spanned 50 years of music from “Cherry Cherry” to three songs from last year’s Melody Road album. One of those tracks, “Seongah and Jimmy,” was done in concert for the first time ever.

He won the crowd  at Rod Laver Arena over with family moments – saying he was streaming the show back to his 97-year-old mother, who lives in L.A.

Other highlights included:  “America,” which he dedicated to his grandmother, who came to the U.S. from Russia more than 100 years ago.

“Brooklyn Roads,” which gave him time to share childhood memories of his mother, father and brother. Neil tweeted a link to video of this segment in the show.
