Australia’s favourite guilty pleasure ‘Neighbours’ is launching its very own high school spin-off!

The recently announced miniseries project sounds an awful lot like the plot and premise of Netflix’s fan favourite ‘Riverdale’… but very Australian.

Variety reports that Fremantle, the company behind the long-running show, is preparing to launch Neighbours: Erinsborough High.

Across 5-episodes, the first season will follow a group of year 12 students as they prepare for final exams and life after high school who are rocked by the disappearance of a popular student.

In a statement, a rep for Fremantle said, “It will explore issues universally troubling teens today – bullying, mental illness, sexuality, cultural diversity, parental and peer pressure, and teacher-student relationships”.

I’m sorry, but that sounds an awful lot like the plot of Riverdale Season 1!

Neighbours: Erinsborough High is set to include several ‘Neighbours’ alumni including Australian history-making transgender actress Georgie Stone.

The series will air locally on 10 Play and is set to premiere late 2019/early 2020.
