10: Who You Gonna Call!? .. Ghostbusters was the highest grossing movie of 1984.

9.  1984 was the year of Spinal Tap, the Rock-u-mentary based on a fictitious heavy metal band.

8. Demi Moore and Emilio Estevez were the “it kids” of Hollywood in 1984, but the romance didn’t last.

7. Scarlett Johannson came into the world in on November 22, 1984. She’s about to reprise her Black Widow role in The Avengers: Age of Ultron.

6. The Swing by INXS was number 1 on the album charts in 1984 – the band toured the US, UK and Europe. 

5. On Valentine’s Day 1984, Elton John marries his German sound engineer Renata Blauel in Sydney. 

4. Classical composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is brought to the big screen in the Oscar winner for Best Picture in 1984 Amadeus.

2. Madonna had her first Number 1 in 1984 with Like A Virgin….and performed it at the first  MTV Video Music Awards, where she had a wardrobe malfunction involving her stiletto, flashing her underwear.      

1. Pop Culture Event of 1984 – Michael Jackson’s hair catches fire while filming a Pepsi commercial for the Grammy Awards broadcast. The King of Pop got too close to an exploding pyrotechnic and received second degree burns to the royal dome.
