Every morning, a 22-year-old Arabian mare named Jenny takes a leisurely stroll through the streets of Frankfurt all by herself.

Accompanied by a card reading: “I’m called Jenny, not a runaway, just taking a walk”, the horse has been taking her 20-kilometre walks for over a decade.

“The police know. When someone calls in, the police ask me: ‘Werner, do you know where Jenny is?’ Yes, I say. ‘Ok, then everything is in order,'” Jenny’s owner, Werner Weischedel, told a local news program.

Preferring to escape the confines of her home to nibble on tasty vegetation on the river banks, the 22-year-old mare is well-known in the community.

“Everybody knows her,” Weischedel told the publication.

Since Jenny’s story went viral, people have slammed the horse’s owners, claiming that the mare could eventually hurt itself or someone else. However, local veterinarians have dismissed the criticism as Jenny is well-acquainted with her surrounding.

Veterinarian Maren Hellige said the mare “seems very relaxed and satisfied.”
