Divinyls co-founder Mark McEntee has announced that he has put together a new line-up of the band and plans to hit the road in 2019.
McEntee has revealed that the new group will perform as tribute to singer Chrissy Amphlett who passed away in 2013 after a battle with breast cancer.
McEntee and Amphlett formed Divinyls in Sydney in 1980, and had a host of hits including ‘Science Fiction’ ‘Boys In Town’ and ‘I Touch Myself’
McEntee has told Noise11.com:
“This will be a celebration of what we did together,”
“That’s how I look at it”.
The 2019 lineup includes former Blondie guitarist Frank Infante, while LA based singer Lauren Ruth Ward will take on lead vocals.
McEntee continued: “I was in LA when Billy Steinberg called me and said ‘there’s this girl going into the studio to record a Divinyls song,”
“He said ‘she’s wondering if you would come in a play a bit of guitar’. I thought, maybe, maybe not and then I agreed. I went into the studio and heard her singing I thought what a great voice she’s got.”
“She’s got this crack right down middle C. Her voice breaks at middle C. She had a Janis Joplin vibe.”
Divinyls final show with Chrissy was back in 2008 on the Gold Coast.
