There’s some sad news for fans of long-running cartoon The Simpsons this morning, with reports that the next season could be it’s last.
The show that brought us the hilarious Simpsons family, Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie, is about to head into it’s 32nd season after a massive 40 years on TV.
But now, Danny Elfman, who created the show’s classic theme song and composed all of the music on the show, has said that he’s heard this season will be the last.
“Well, from what I’ve heard, it is coming to an end,” Danny said on podcast Joe.
“I don’t know for a fact, but I’ve head that it will be in its last year.”
Speaking about being part of the series, Danny also said that he’s still amazed by the fact that The Simpsons lasted as long as it did.
“All I can say is that I’m so flabbagasted and amazed that it has lasted as long as it did,” he continued.
“You have to realise, when I scored The Simpsons, I wrote this crazy piece of music, and I expected no one would hear it, because I really did not think the show had a chance in hell.”
The Simpsons, created by Matt Groening in 1989, is the longest-running American sitcom and the longest-running American scripted primetime television series in terms of both episodes and seasons.
After such a long time of having The Simpsons on our screens, fans were of course devastated by Danny’s claims, taking to Twitter to express their shock and sadness.
Please don't cancel The Simpsons they are my second family. Canceling @TheSimpsons is like losing your own family.

No doubt tons of people will turn to Disney+ to rematch their favourite episodes this weekend, after the new streaming service added every episode of the classic cartoon to their list of titles.
