The Voice contestant Soma Sutton has been criticised online for her “poor attitude” after being eliminated from the competition, with some labelling her a “brat”.
Tuesday night’s episode saw Soma compete against fellow contestant Stephanie Cole in a playoff, resulting in only one of them proceeding to the next round.
Guy Sebastian chose Stephanie to remain in the competition.
“Soma, I feel like I’ve unlocked something that you need to work on but you need time to work on it,” Guy said to her.
“But I just don’t think this particular time in your life on this particular show is right for you right now.”
Instead of thanking the coaches and leaving the stage like most eliminated contestants, Soma hit back, saying: “Well, the thing about that is that I didn’t really want to come on the show in the first place.”
She continued, “I was convinced to come here, to be here, to stand here and do this in front of you. It’s disheartening.
“Your advice that you guys all give, is that genuine? I would just like to know what you really think. Do I actually have what it takes to be a musician?”

The coaches were visibly shocked with Kelly breaking the silence to say: “No one’s going to waste their time and just tell you something because it sounds good.”
In response, Soma expressed her disappointment over the program not giving her enough time to show viewers who she really is.
“You don’t know why I am in my shell,” she expressed.
Guy rebutted the claim that the show failed to give her enough time to express herself, stating: “We can only dive in to our artists as much as they let us dive in. If you don’t tell me what stops you from being the artist you need to be, what can I do?”
Viewers were also shocked by Soma’s rant with many online condemning her for her “bratty attitude”.
“Soma has ‘won’ too many participation trophies methinks,” one person tweeted.
Another added, “So glad the ungrateful, petulant child having a tantrum didn’t get a look in for the wild card. ‘Didn’t want to be on this show’ but you still took someone else’s spot who would have been far more worthy of being there.”

I thought Soma allowed her emotions to get the better of her there. And she came across as a rude little brat. #TheVoiceAU

Soma seems like a spoiled brat who's too used to getting her own way…ugh. next. #TheVoiceAU

Soma, as if you’d say “I don’t even want to be here” when there are so many people that would kill to be where you are. You’re a waste🤦🏻♀️ next time just stay home #TheVoiceAU

i feel like soma’s ramble was less of an attack and more of her insecurities coming out. you could see her tearing up when asking if she was good enough – she has a unique and you can imagine the mixed reviews she would have had from that. #thevoiceau

Guy Sebastian also failed to pick Soma as his wildcard, instead picking Matt Gresham.
Do you think Soma’s tantrum was valid?
The Voice continues Sunday night at 7pm on Channel 9.
