Scheduled filming for Home And Away has been postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 lockdown restrictions in Sydney.

Production for the soap opera was expected to resume this week.

Actor Shane Withington – who plays John Palmer on the program – revealed the news on social media, writing: “It really looks like they want people to stay at home unless their work is essential.

When asked whether filming the show was considered “essential”, the actor responded: “Not anymore… they pulled us today.”

In a statement, channel Seven confirmed that the cast will not be returning to set.

“The health and safety of all Seven West Media employees is paramount,” they told Digital Spy.

“With the ongoing COVID-19 related restrictions, Home and Away’s scheduled two-week production break has been extended as a precautionary response to the current pandemic.”

Last year, Home And Away was forced to halt production for two months when lockdown first hit. Social distancing measures and other precautions were subsequently put in place for the return of the cast and crew.

It is unclear whether this will impact the rollout of future episodes.
