While now considered a gay icon, Freddie Mercury kept his sexuality and relationship secret once Queen gained stardom.
As a result Freddie’s long term partner Jim Hutton kept out of the limelight when he started seeing him in the mid – 1980’s.
These candid shots reveal another side of the flamboyant singer, showing the pair enjoying their time together at Christmas and on holidays, as well letting their hair down at some of Freddie’s legendary parties and backstage at Queen concerts.
Jim and Freddie stayed together until the singers death in 1991.
When Mercury was diagnosed with AIDS, he even offered his partner an exit on their relationship, but he refused.
“I love you, Freddie,”
“I’m not going anywhere.”
And he didn’t – Hutton nursed the love of his life, and was there when Freddie passed away.
