Sir Elton John’s mother hired a lookalike of her estranged son for her 90th birthday party on Saturday
Sheila Farebrother, who fell out with her famous offspring in 2008, hired the Ultimate Elton tribute act as well as enlisting Sir Elton’s one-time duet partner Kiki Dee, real name Pauline Matthews, for her landmark celebrations.
Lookalike Paul Bacon took to the stage with Dee to perform 1976 hit Don’t Go Breaking My Heart at the party in a converted barn.
Dee tells Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper, “Sheila’s 90th birthday was a really special evening. It was wonderful to see her on the dance floor having such a brilliant time with so much love around her.”
Asked if she had been contacted by her son on her special day, Farebrother replied, “No”, but the Rocket Man hitmaker’s representative said on Wednesday, “Elton is on tour in America but I know he sent flowers. He can’t be there if he’s on stage.”
The superstar hit headlines earlier this week when he became embroiled in a dispute with Dolce & Gabbana designers Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce over an interview in which they stated that children conceived via in vitro fertilisation (IVF) are “chemical offsprings”.
