One of the tracks on the upcoming Chic album will be an all-star affair, mixing voices old and new.
Nile Rodgers tells the BBC that “Queen” features the voices of Elton John, Chaka Khan, Miley Cyrus and Janelle Monae. He claims the track sounds “like Crosby Stills and Nash meets Chic.”
Rodgers says he’s performed in concert with Elton around 20 times, but this is the first time they’ve recorded together. “It was like ‘you should be in my band forever!’ He was perfect.”
Along with the new songs, there’s also a touch of retro. Rodgers used what he calls “lost” tapes of Chic’s original line-up as a starting point – meaning there will be unspecified contributions from the late Bernard Edwards and Luther Vandross.
About Time, Chic’s first new album in 23 years, will be released in June.
