The latest issue of the U.K. music magazine Mojo comes packaged with a CD featuring a previously unreleased cover of the classic Beatles ballad “Here, There and Everywhere” by ex-Pink Floyd singer/guitarist David Gilmour. Now the track has made its way to YouTube.
Gilmour’s rendition of “Here, There and Everywhere” is fairly faithful to the original tune, which was written and sung by Paul McCartney and appears on the Fab Four’s 1966 album Revolver.
David’s version features somewhat fuller instrumentation, with sweet female backing vocals giving the track a dreamy quality. It also boasts a slightly blues-tinged guitar solo from Gilmour.
According to Mojo’s website, David recorded the song with his son Joe two years ago. The aforementioned CD is titled David Gilmour & Friends, and features various songs paying tribute to the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer. Gilmour appears on six tracks on the disc, which also contains songs by David Crosby & Graham Nash, Roxy Music’s Phil Manzanera, Robert Wyatt and other artists who’ve collaborated with Gilmour in the past.
The CD was put together to accompany an in-depth interview with Gilmour that appears in the magazine, which is now on sale. Gilmour will release his latest solo album, Rattle That Lock, on September 18.
